Admission Requirements

There is a separate portfolio requirement to be accepted into this major.

A portfolio review is required. Portfolio deadline has been extended to May 1.

In order to be admitted to the Department of Visual Arts and Design at Florida Southern College in Studio Art (Bachelor of Fine Arts/Bachelor of Arts), you must submit a portfolio for review. Your portfolio is automatically used for scholarship consideration.

We prefer that you upload images of your best work to a folder on Google Drive or Dropbox and add the link in the provided space on the registration form. Please do not send physical artwork in the mail. If you would like to set up a virtual portfolio review, one or more of our professors would be happy to go through your portfolio with you. You should select fifteen to twenty of your best images to submit. We also suggest that you include in your portfolio works from each of the general categories and from as many of the subcategories as possible:

General
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Ceramics
  • Photography
  • Printmaking
  • Digital Media
Drawing
  • Contour Line
  • Modeling/Value Drawing Perspective
  • Still Life
  • Figure Drawing
  • Self Portrait
Design
  • Compositional Studies
  • Color Theory
  • Value Theory
  • Investigation of Form/Counter-Form
  • Linear Mark-Making

Although our portfolio requirements are prescriptive, rather than creating new or additional work to fill in specific categories, we encourage you to send images from your existing work that matches our requests as best you can. We like to see variety and quality.
